EFCC Targets Ex-Lagos Speaker Mudashiru Obasa for Arrest Over Corruption Claims

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is reportedly set to arrest former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, over alleged financial misconduct.

Obasa, who was impeached on Monday, is accused of corruption involving billions of naira. Key allegations include the expenditure of N17 billion to fix a gate leading to the assembly and the misappropriation of N43.5 billion on luxury vehicles and other expenses.

Sources within the EFCC disclosed to Peoples Gazette that the agency has gathered sufficient evidence to ensure Obasa faces justice. The former speaker, who is currently in the United States, is expected to be arrested immediately upon his return to Nigeria.

Investigators noted that this case is stronger than previous investigations into Obasa’s activities, including a 2020 probe where he was accused of spending N1.1 billion in just one week but avoided prosecution.

“Heavy hammer is waiting to fall on him,” an EFCC insider revealed. The source further confirmed that no political interference would obstruct the agency's efforts, adding, “He will clarify things to our detectives.”

With the case fully compiled, the EFCC is confident in its ability to prosecute Obasa, marking another step in its fight against corruption in public offices.
