Governor Soludo Unveils ‘Operation Udo Ga-Achi’ to Strengthen Security in Anambra

Governor Charles Soludo has unveiled a new state security initiative, code-named “Operation Udo Ga-Achi,” meaning "Operation Peace Shall Reign," as part of efforts to combat crime and ensure safety in Anambra State. The launch, held at the International Convention Centre, Awka, on Saturday, January 18, 2025, coincided with the signing of the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025.

The initiative comprises a robust team of over 2,000 personnel and 200 operational vehicles, aimed at protecting citizens, businesses, and investors across the state. Present at the launch were members of the Anambra State Executive Council, the Senate, state governors, traditional rulers, diplomatic officials, and other dignitaries.

According to a statement by Christian Aburime, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, the new security system is built on a collaborative approach. Personnel are drawn from the Nigerian Army, Police, Navy, DSS, Civil Defence, and the Agunechemba security outfit established by the Homeland Security Law. The operation will deploy cutting-edge technologies, including AI-powered surveillance cameras for community monitoring, a command-and-control system for seamless voice, video, and data communication, and tracking systems, walkie-talkies, and other advanced equipment.

Special task forces will focus on tackling drugs, cultism, touting, and other forms of criminality. The operation will conduct patrols, stop-and-search activities, and maintain a visible presence across all parts of the state.

To enhance rapid response, the state has established a call center with toll-free lines: 5111, 08002200008, and 112 for emergencies. Additionally, whistleblowers providing credible information on criminal activities will receive cash rewards of up to N5 million, depending on the severity of the crime.

Governor Soludo emphasized the need for a collective effort in addressing Anambra’s security challenges. He announced plans to collaborate with the Commissioner of Police and DSS to target the 10 local government areas with the highest crime rates. Each LGA recording a zero-crime rate will be rewarded with N10 million monthly as an incentive.

The governor also extended an amnesty program to kidnappers, cultists, drug dealers, and other criminals willing to surrender and undergo rehabilitation. The amnesty window remains open until February 28, 2025.

Governor Soludo reiterated that security, law, and order are critical to achieving his administration’s vision of a livable and prosperous homeland. He described the evolution of crime in the Southeast as "hydra-headed," requiring a strategic and comprehensive response. The newly created Agunechemba unit will serve as an agile and mobile intervention force, complementing traditional policing methods.

With “Operation Udo Ga-Achi,” Governor Soludo has taken a bold step toward establishing Anambra as a safe and secure state for its residents and stakeholders.
